The historic integrity of the property has been maintained by Bob and Ann Betton since 1976 when they first opened the museum to the public. Since opening, Greenwood has received numerous awards including the Musgrave medal for excellence in heritage preservation (one of the most prestigious awards in Jamaica), the National Association of Returning Residents plaque and the Berger Paints Heritage in Architecture award. Additionally, Greenwood Great House is a national monument. Fodor's Caribbean Ports of Call (7th ed.) describes Greenwood Great House as best “at evoking life on a sugar plantation.” Many other guides including Lonely Planet and Rough Guide highly recommend the tour.
